David Hockney's Serpentine show was 'best attended' in gallery's history

The Serpentine gallery in London is cock-a-hoop at the attendance figures for its recent show of works by the late, great innovator David Hockney.
The gallery says it is "delighted to share that the exhibition was the best-attended exhibition in Serpentine’s history since records began!” Crowds flocked to Hockney’s A Year in Normandie and Some Other Thoughts about Painting, in fact almost 300,000 people saw the artist’s monumental frieze A Year in Normandie (2020-2021) and five still-lifes alongside five portraits depicting members of the artist’s close circle, including his family and carers (chums portrayed include the art lawyer Joe Hage).
A printed mural in the garden remains on display until 20 September. The show ran for just over five months, from May to August. The Bradford-born artist died in June aged 88.
