Bruno Guimaraes scored stunning goal two minutes after David Raya had saved a penalty as Arsenal beat Sunderland 2-0 to move above Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.
The Black Cats had the chance to go in front when Ezri Konsa was penalised for holding Dan Ballard in the second half but Raya brilliantly tipped Enzo Le Fee's spot kick onto the post.
Just 121 seconds later, Guimaraes, whose every touch had been booed by the home fans due to his Newcastle connections, controlled a Declan Rice pass and crashed a stunning strike in off the underside of the crossbar from outside the box.
Arsenal had to withstand late pressure from the home side but made the result safe when Bukayo Saka converted a stoppage-time penalty after Reinildo Mandava had been shown a second yellow card for hauling him to the ground as he ran through on goal.
The victory, Arsenal's fourth in a row in the Premier League and sixth in all competitions, puts the champions three points above Manchester City, who face Manchester United live on Sky Sports on Sunday.
