I Tried Rag & Bone’s Viral Sweatpants Jeans, Here’s Why I Love Them for Travel

I firmly value comfort over style when it comes to my airport fit , but as I get older and travel more often, I've been on the hunt for a go-to outfit that combines both, seamlessly taking me from long plane rides to walking around a new city with ease. So, when I was flying home from Rome with a friend who was looking particularly fashionable (and to my shock, comfortable ) in jeans , I was convinced on the spot to nab a pair of my own for my next long-haul flight . She was wearing Rag & Bone's sweatpant jeans: The viral pants that look like a structured pair of denim, but feel as soft and stretchy as your favorite pajamas .

I quickly got my hands on Rag & Bone's rb Miramar Shea ankle relaxed straight pant in the color Lakewood, a perfect medium wash. I wanted a pair of travel pants that looked polished enough to wear to check in at a five-star resort but comfy enough to sport on a packed economy flight, and this pair definitely delivers. These soft and stylish sweatpant jeans have become a permanent fixture in my airport uniform, whether I'm hoping on a red-eye or an early morning departure so I can arrive ready for whatever's on the itinerary.

What I love most about these pants is that they truly feel as soft as a pair of sweatpants. Made of 100% cotton, they're the perfect light-to-medium thickness that can be worn in any climate. From a distance, the printed denim design looks like real denim, making them a much more refined airport look than a pair of joggers or leggings . They even have a real button and zipper, front pockets, and back pockets that give the illusion that I'm actually wearing jeans on the plane . From flights to Cincinnati to train rides to the Hamptons, these straight-leg pants ensure I look put together while staying comfortable for a full travel day.

I love my sweatpant jeans so much that I decided to try out two additional styles from Rag & Bone. I picked up the rb Miramar Sofie wide-leg pant in the color Antonia, and I immediately fell in love with its unique two-tone design. The wide-leg fit is extremely comfortable and flattering, but because they run very long, they may require hemming. Like the straight-leg pair, these feature a real button and pockets, making them both functional and stylish.

I also snagged the rb Miramar wide-leg ankle pant in the color Minetta. For those who are looking for a more traditional sweatpant-like vibe, this pair is your best bet. They are your typical pull-on elastic pants, featuring a printed button and fake pockets. Of the three styles I tried, these look the least like real denim.

One thing to note is that the pants run large, both in length and size. I picked my size based on my waist and hip measurements, but I could have easily sized down. All of Rag & Bone's rb Miramar styles are available in both ankle and regular lengths, and while the ankle length was designed for those of us (like me) who are 5'4 and below, I still found them to be a little long. I'm 5'4 and tend to wear platform shoes, and my pants were still brushing the ground. (My 5'8 friend was able to comfortably wear my ankle-length style pants with regular shoes.)

As for the regular length, they are made for those who are 5'5 and above; however, I found them to be exceptionally long and unwearable without hemming, even in heels. On my 5'11 friend, the regular-length pants are the perfect fit for her while wearing sneakers, looking similar to how the ankle-length style fits on me. The one caveat here is that there are more than five times the number of options and styles for the regular length than there are for the ankle length, and many of the most unique and exciting styles (to me at least) are only available in the longer length.
