Every autumn, Munich’s Theresienwiese transforms into the site of the world’s largest folk festival. With upwards of six million visitors expected from around the globe, we’d love to hear your advice on how to make the most of the experience - or just survive.

Every autumn, Munich’s Theresienwiese transforms into the site of the world’s largest folk festival. With upwards of six million visitors expected from around the globe, we’d love to hear your advice on how to make the most of the experience - or just survive.

Oktoberfest 2026 is set to kick off at midday on Saturday when the Mayor of Munich taps the first keg in the Schottenhamel tent with the famous cry O'zapft is! (The keg is tapped!)

Over its 16-to-18-day run, the event is expected to welcome more than six million visitors from around the world.

Navigating a festival of this scale isn't just about showing up. From scoring a table in a packed tent without a reservation to pacing yourself through litres of heavy Bavarian beer, first-time visitors have a lot to figure out.
