Brandy Clark has announced a new album, the bird , arriving January 15th, 2027, via Reprise Records. As a first preview, the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter has shared the new single “American Roots.”
Written by Clark alongside Michael Pollack and Griff Clawson, “American Roots” takes inspiration from Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” and looks toward the experiences and connections Americans share rather than the forces pulling them apart. On the song, Clark sings with a gilded cadence over twangy, shimmering strings that give it an undeniable all-American feel: “If you’re here/ Standing in the land of freedom/ Miles and miles and miles/ Underneath your boots/ Every note leads back to the garden of Eden/ American roots.”
Produced by Shooter Jennings, the bird was recorded at Los Angeles’ Sunset Sound with Clark’s road band of Gabe Burdulia, Amanda McCoy, and Erin Nelson. Its 11 tracks find Clark circling questions of love, loss, loneliness, and belonging, with Rosanne Cash appearing on “Old Woman” and SistaStrings joining her for “Astronaut.” the bird follows Clark’s self-titled 2023 album, which was produced by Brandi Carlile and earned Clark her first Grammy win with “Dear Insecurity.”
“My hope is that listeners will feel as inspired and entertained by this body of work as we did while making it,” Clark said in a statement. “We had such a great time bringing these songs to life in the studio, and I hope that spirit comes through. More than anything, I hope everyone who listens can find a little piece of themselves somewhere in these songs.”
Clark will take the record on the road next year for her extensive “Take Flight World Tour,” which kicks off January 22nd at The Bellwether in Los Angeles and currently runs through May 2nd in New Braunfels, Texas. Stops along the way include Seattle, Philadelphia, Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, and more. Tickets for the newly announced dates are on sale on sale via Ticketmaster . Fans can also look for ticket deals via Vivid Seats (first-time Vivid Seats customers can take $20 off an order of $200 or more with code COS20 ).
