Her debut album NATURE IS HEALING came out in June, and now she's announcing a companion-piece EP called HARDCORE HEALING .
HARDCORE HEALING is not horsegiirL suddenly deciding to make a Cro-Mags record or anything. In a press release, the artist says that the term "hardcore" can have all kinds of meanings, and she describes what she was going for: "I really wanted to do a puzzle piece that completes the album and can sit more in the club space. It still has the hopeful, euphoric energy of the album, but translated into a dancefloor anthem record."
The "dancefloor anthem" thing definitely applies to lead single "c*ntry girl rock." horsegiirL recorded the track with 100 gecs member and Charli XCX/Rico Nasty collaborator Dylan Brady, who will join her for some of her upcoming tour dates. The song doesn't sound anything like regular country music, at least until two thirds of the way through, when a sample joyously bursts through. Most of the time, it's horsegiirL chanting about being a country girl over hammering club beats. It is extremely silly, and I'm pretty sure I mean that as a compliment. In the video, she rides around in a pickup truck and goes shopping for cowboy boots. Check it out below.
