Geordie Greep has responded to an allegation of sexual misconduct while live on stage, after flyers were handed out by an attendee ahead of the gig.

The former Black Midi singer performed at the The Pearl venue in Vancouver last night (Thursday October 8), and according to some people online who went to the show, there was an attendee who handed out flyers accusing the singer of sexual misconduct.

As seen in pictures online, the flyer had “Geordie Greep A Rapist” written in bold letters across the top, as well as a message reading “You know what you did this morning Oct 8th”.

The flyer did not say where the alleged incident took place nor divulge any further details. It did, however, accuse the singer of thinking “he can do what he wants”, and urged people to “let him know what Vancouver thinks of rapists”.

Various reports from the night shared that the singer took to the stage two hours later than scheduled, and appeared in front of the crowd without his band.

From there, he went on to address the accusations of sexual misconduct, and say that while he was a part of a “misunderstanding” at a house party the night prior, the accusations of him being a “rapist” were untrue.

“Essentially, what happened last night, [was that] me and some of the band went out to some bars, we went out, we met people, and it ended up in a situation really late at a house party,” he told the audience.

“I got the wrong end of the stick with someone who was there, and I made a move, and it didn’t come off,” he added. “I really quickly apologised, and it was a complete misunderstanding on my part, and I felt extremely bad, I feel extremely sorry, and extremely upset about the situation.

“I would never rape a woman. I’m not a rapist. It’s not how that went down.”

He also went on to share why his band was not on stage with him, and tell the audience that they would be issued with refunds if they felt uncomfortable and wanted to leave the gig.

“It’s a very strange thing to have happened and a very scary thing, so all of the band, I understand that I didn’t want to force them to still play a show in the light of that happening,” he shared. “We were unsure what the response would be to all this, and I can only tell you that it’s OK if people want refunds, if they want to leave, it’s fine.

“We are going to donate the proceeds of this show to the Against Violence organisation in [British] Columbia, and basically, I just wanted to be transparent with you about what happened. I’m very, very, very sorry; I made someone uncomfortable without meaning to. It’s not a good thing, it’s not good.”

According to Setlist.FM , Greep then went on to play 10 songs without his band.

Greep’s tour is set to continue in Boise tonight (Friday October 9) and tomorrow in Salt Lake City (Saturday October 10). At time of writing, there is no comment about whether or not his band will be back for the shows.
