More street marches are planned in Paris on Tuesday as students, teachers and trade unions continue their protests over education funding and working conditions.
The main demonstration will set off from Place d’Italie in the 13th arrondissement at 2pm, heading towards Place Vauban in the 7th arrondissement, near Les Invalides.
The demonstrators will continue along Avenue des Gobelins, Boulevard de Port-Royal, Boulevard du Montparnasse, Boulevard des Invalides and Avenue de Villars before reaching its destination.
Separately, student groups and associations are calling for an alternative march alongside the main union-led demonstration from Place d’Italie to Les Invalides.
Student general assemblies have called on protesters to gather outside Paris Hôtel de Ville before marching to Matignon, the Prime Minister’s residence.
According to Europe 1, the route has been submitted to the police prefecture but is expected to be banned over security concerns.
The new day of demonstrations, dubbed Act V, comes after several weeks of high school students blockading lycees and street marches, which have been backed by parents, teachers and unions.
A major demonstration on October 6th drew 56,000 people in Paris, according to the Interior Ministry, while organisers put the figure at 100,000.
Student organisations then called for further action, including a rally at Place de la Bastille on October 8th, and are now joining forces with professional trade unions for another day of protests.
The RATP, the capital's main public transport company, has announced that two metro stations along the demonstration route will close starting 9am on Tuesday, October 13th: Rue du Bac on line 12 and Varenne on Line 13.
Metro trains will pass through both stations without stopping. The stations will reopen once authorised by the police prefecture.
Further station closures are possible, so passengers should check for updates before travelling.
Motorists should expect traffic disruption in the areas through which the procession will pass, particularly throughout the afternoon. Temporary traffic restrictions may be put in place to allow the demonstrators to pass and to ensure their safety.
