Chilean promoters reportedly spent months trying to secure a Santiago concert, but the discussions failed to produce a date. U2 Leave Chile Off Latin American Tour for First Time After Negotiations Reportedly Fall Through Pedro Camacho

U2 have announced their first 2027 Latin American dates as part of their “The Greatest Show On Earth World Tour,” with concerts scheduled in Mexico, Brazil, and Argentina. But one country is conspicuously absent from the itinerary: Chile, a regular stop on the Irish band’s previous visits to the region.

According to La Tercera , one of Chile’s leading newspapers, negotiations to bring U2 to Santiago had been underway since 2025 but ultimately failed to produce a concert.

The omission is particularly unusual given the band’s history in Chile. U2 have performed in the country during all four of their previous Latin American touring visits, beginning with the “PopMart Tour” in February 1998. They returned in 2006 for the “Vertigo Tour,” in 2011 for the “360° Tour,” and most recently in October 2017 for “The Joshua Tree Tour,” which celebrated the 30th anniversary of their landmark 1987 album.

As La Tercera previously reported in March , plans for a possible 2027 concert were being discussed amid restrictions on the use of Estadio Nacional, where authorities were prioritizing sporting events. However, the newspaper has not established whether venue availability was responsible for the negotiations falling through.

U2’s newly announced 2027 tour dates include two concerts each in Mexico City, São Paulo, and Buenos Aires. The shows are part of the band’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, with Beck joining them as a special guest.

The tour will also support U2’s upcoming 16th studio album, Carnaval De Luz , arriving November 13th via Interscope Records. Their first album of new material since 2017’s Songs of Experience was announced in September alongside the single “Silencio,” whose accompanying music video was filmed in Mexico City.
