Former Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez announces his retirement from playing career.

Former Burnley striker Jay Rodriguez has announced his retirement.

The 37-year-old England international began his career with the Clarets and eventually left his hometown club to join Southampton in 2012.

He made one England appearance in 2013 and subsequently joined West Bromwich Albion before returning to Turf Moor in 2019.

He won promotion to the Premier League twice with Burnley and finished his career with Wrexham, helping them win promotion from League One in 2025.

Rodriguez played more than 250 Premier League games during his career and in total made 311 appearances for Burnley across his two spells with the club.

His solitary England appearance came in a friendly against Chile at Wembley, during his spell playing for Southampton.

Rodriguez also helped the Saints to the EFL Cup final in 2016-17, in which they were defeated by Manchester United.

Rodriguez appeared 25 times for Wrexham and had been without a club since leaving the Welsh side in the summer.
