Devendra Banhart, Gyan Riley, and Noah Georgeson Launch New Band Hug
They’ll tour in the fall behind their self-titled debut album, led by “Cow With Half Moon Parasol”
Devendra Banhart has unveiled a new band with guitarist Gyan Riley and producer/multi-instrumentalist Noah Georgeson called Hug. The trio will release their self-titled debut album on September 11, via David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label. Check out their fall tour dates below, along with lead single “Cow With Half Moon Parasol.”
Banhart and Georgeson are longtime collaborators, including on the 2021 ambient album Refuge . Riley, the son of minimalist composer Terry , and Georgeson were childhood friends. Riley said in a press release, “Being thirteen and completely obsessed with classical guitar, there were few people I could bond with over that…. Basically just my teacher and Noah.” When Georgeson finally introduced Riley to Banhart, years later in Brooklyn, “Everything was sparkling and I felt like a little kid,” says Banhart. “And so I knew, we must play.”
