Lovable in talks for $300m raise at $13.2B valuation

A Swedish AI startup less than three years old is on track to double its valuation to $13.2 billion, highlighting Europe's capacity to build top-tier contenders in the highly lucrative race to automate software development.

Lovable, a Swedish artificial intelligence startup, is in negotiations to raise $300 million at a $13.2 billion valuation. The funding round, expected to be led by Menlo Ventures, would exactly double the company's $6.6 billion valuation from December. Menlo Ventures announced a new $3 billion fund just last month, positioning it to lead large deals in the artificial intelligence sector.

The projected price tag is remarkable given the company's age. Founded less than three years ago, Lovable reached an annualized revenue run rate of $500 million in June. Generating half a billion dollars in recurring revenue in under three years is a pace previously unseen in European technology. It explains why venture capitalists are willing to assign such a massive premium to a company that only recently achieved unicorn status.

Lovable specializes in a field known as "vibe coding," which allows users to build software simply by describing it. This approach is rapidly disrupting traditional software development by removing the need for deep programming knowledge. The company's customer base spans individual founders, designers, and salespeople building websites and e-commerce storefronts. However, its most significant growth driver is enterprise adoption, with Lovable counting Workday, Asana, and Nvidia among its clients.

Building software by description has emerged as the most popular and lucrative use case for generative AI. The broader market is currently undergoing a fierce valuation arms race as a result. Replit, a direct competitor, secured a $9 billion valuation in March. Factory, a startup helping enterprises develop AI agents, raised $150 million at a $1.5 billion valuation in April.

The competitive landscape shifted dramatically last month when SpaceX acquired Cursor, a vibe-coding tool tailored specifically for developers, for $60 billion. For European investors and tech leaders, Lovable's trajectory is a vital proof point. It demonstrates that Europe can produce category-defining AI companies at the highest global tier, rather than just scaling traditional software or fintech businesses. Securing this $300 million round will be crucial for Lovable to maintain its momentum against well-capitalized American rivals.
