The DJs are fighting. Following recent beefs with Travis Scott and Diplo , John Summit called out Pete Tong earlier this week for allegedly stealing his unreleased remix of "Missing" by Everything But The Girl, but Tong retaliated with receipts today.
He made another post clarifying that he talked with Rizardo "on the phone and he had no idea about all of this to be clear." Shortly after, Rizardo made a statement , saying, "After learning more today about the background surrounding this release, I've come to the conclusion that it no longer feels right for me to be part of it. This isn't about taking sides or blaming anyone, it's simply the decision that feels right to me."
Tong acknowledged the allegations today in an interview on social media, saying:
We had positive conversations on text about making a new version of his remix, and at the same time I was talking to Franky about doing a new version of his remix… It's quite normal when releasing a song to have different versions of the same song, or in this case it would have been a cover version, so there could have been a Pete Tong orchestral version, a version with Franky Rizardo and a version with John Summit.
He showed an email with the proposal his team had sent to Summit's team, which reads: "Our provisional plan is to release the Franky mix in the next six weeks. Franky's version will have very minimal orchestral elements and the vocal will be a straight replay of the original. For John's mix, we would like to release this later in the summer (although totally open to discussing timelines with you guys of course)."
"I'm disappointed," Tong said in the video. "I don't like being accused of things that aren't true. If you've got a problem, pick up the phone. That's certainly what I would preach. I’ve tried to call John, I’ve tried to text him; he’s chosen to not respond, and that's why I'm here today, to make sure everyone has the context of how we got to this point."
