John Mellencamp kicked off his new greatest hits tour with a duo of weekend shows that lived up to what was promised.
Dubbed the “Dancing Words Tour, The Greatest Hits,” the heartland rocker delivered a three-part set of 26 of his timeless songs and chart toppers on July 10th in Grand Rapids, Michigan at Acrisure Amphitheatre and July 11th at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois outside Chicago.
The set kicked off with “Lawless Times” and “Small Town” with the first part of the show also featuring “Paper in Fire” and “R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.” before culminating in “Jack & Diane.” The second half of the show started with “I Need a Lover” with Mellencamp and crew busting out “Ain’t Even Done with the Night,” “Rain on the Scarecrow,” and “Authority Song” in the build up to “Pink Houses.” Mellencamp brought the band back out for an encore of “Cherry Bomb” and “Hurts So Good.”
The tour continues this week in Shakopee, Minnesota, Clarkston, Michigan, and Noblesville, Indiana; check out Mellencamp’s full tour schedule below.
