Six British acts set Rock Hall record as Oasis, Collins inducted

A record six British acts, including Oasis and Phil Collins, will enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2026, highlighting the continued global dominance of the UK's cultural exports.

The 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction class will feature a record six British acts. Oasis, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Joy Division/New Order and Sade will all be honoured, surpassing the previous high of five UK inductees set in 2019.

For the UK’s cultural economy, this concentration of honourees underscores the lasting global market for British music. The inclusion of Oasis, nominated for the third consecutive year, marks a formal institutional recognition of a band currently experiencing a major commercial resurgence.

The ceremony will also force a long-standing public feud into the same room. Collins, inducted as a solo artist after entering with Genesis in 2010, told MOJO magazine he expects to bump into Oasis at a pre-ceremony lunch.

The tension dates back decades. In the 2016 documentary Supersonic, Noel Gallagher described Collins as “the antichrist of music”. Gallagher had previously stated: “We’re gonna get rid of Phil Collins and Sting... I want the severed head of Phil Collins in my fridge by the end of this decade. And if I haven’t, I’ll be a failure.”

The rivalry even spilled into British public life. During the 1997 general election, Gallagher told The Guardian: “If the Conservatives get in, Phil Collins is threatening to come back and live here. And let’s face it, none of us want that.” Collins hit back in a 2005 interview with the Irish Examiner, dismissing Oasis as “rude, horrible… and not as talented as they think”.

Collins now suggests the animosity stemmed from a 1980s Genesis gig where a writer claimed Gallagher was "completely out of it" and scared by the performance. “Now I’ve thought this through and although Noel didn’t specify what song it was, I reckon it was [Genesis single] ‘Mama’, where I go (recites the lyric) ‘Ha-ha-ha… Oww,’ with the light under my face,” Collins said. “I think ‘Mama’ is why Noel called me the antichrist. But I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt here, and assuming he doesn’t really think I’m the antichrist.”

Oasis's own posture toward the institution has shifted. Liam Gallagher previously called the Rock Hall “full of BUMBACLARTS” and “for WANKERS”, discouraging fans from voting. Upon securing their 2026 induction, he wrote: “I wanna thank all the people who voted for us it’s a real honour ever since I was a little kid and singing in the shower I’d dream about 1 day being in the RnR hall of fame it’s true what they say anything is possible if you have a dream LG x.”
