Europe finalises Solheim Cup roster for September tournament in Netherlands
Captain Anna Nordqvist will name her final four picks next month to complete a 12-woman European roster for the September Solheim Cup in the Netherlands, a showcase event driving broadcast viewership and spotlight for the Ladies European Tour.
Captain Anna Nordqvist, joined by vice-captain Anne van Dam and team helper Becky Brewerton, has wrapped up a scouting mission at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands. The visit leaves just two qualifying tournaments before Nordqvist finalises Team Europe for September's Solheim Cup. The 12-woman roster will be completed on Monday, August 3, when Nordqvist announces her four captain's picks from the Sky Sports studio in London.
Eight roster spots are effectively claimed through a qualifying structure that prioritises the Ladies European Tour's domestic points system alongside global rankings. Charley Hull and Chiara Tamburlini hold the top two positions in the European points standings. Lottie Woad, Maja Stark, Celine Boutier, Carlota Ciganda, Linn Grant and Esther Henseleit currently occupy the six available places via the Rolex Women's World Golf Rankings.
The remaining positions will be decided at the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open and the AIG Women's Open. Helen Briem and Agathe Laisne are the closest challengers in the European points standings, while Nanna Koerstz Madsen and Leona Maguire are lurking via the world rankings. Nordqvist acknowledged the difficulty of the impending selections. "There are a lot of hard phone calls ahead of me to make!" she said.
Hosting the matches at Bernardus Golf marks a significant moment for Dutch sport and the regional economy, drawing the continent's top athletes for a broadcast event running from September 11 to 13. Nordqvist brought 11 players to the venue this week immediately after the Amundi Evian Championship, a stretch of European success she noted energises the tour's home schedule. "I'm excited to see a lot of the hard work and planning fall into place and now the Solheim Cup is only two months away, you can tell everyone is getting a little more serious about it - both the excitement and anticipation is building," she said.
Team USA will finalise its own lineup after the CPKC Women's Open on August 23. For the European side, the focus now shifts entirely to the final two events on home soil before the roster is set.
