As usual, that old-school rock 'n' roll spirit courses through Perennial's new single "Modernism," and so does bracing party-punk sass. The title track from the New England trio's new album has a lot going on despite its spry, minimal arrangement. Instruments enter and exit the frame all the time as Chelsey Hahn and Chad Jewitt trade off rallying cries over a pogo-punk beat. Both the craftsmanship and the energy level are remarkable.
