Brenda Fricker, who famously played the Pigeon Lady in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Daniel Day Lewis’ on-screen mother in My Left Foot , has died at the age of 81.
For her performance in My Left Foot , Fricker won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, becoming the first Irish-born actress ever to win an Oscar.
Her other notable film roles included So I Married an Axe Murder , Angels in the Outfield , and A Time to Kill .
In the latter half of her career, Fricker increasingly opted for more roles in UK, Irish, and Canadian productions, including Inside I’m Dancing , Closing the Ring , Albert Nobbs , and Cloudburst .
Fricke passed away Thursday, July 16th, following a period of ill health. “We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her,” her agent, Phil Belfield, said in a statement. “I was honored to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over.”
