Waikiki is renowned as one of Hawaii’s and the world’s most popular tropical tourism destinations, with multistory resort hotels pressed up against some of the best beaches in the Pacific Ocean. However, most visitors to the area may not realize that a large swath of Waikiki, including a large grassy park and the Hale Koa multistory hotel complex, is actually owned by the military. The entire area is referred to either Fort DeRussy Beach Park or the Fort DeRussy Military Reservation, and the hotel and other facilities in the park provide rest and recreation for members of the U.S. Armed Forces
