Illume Photography Awards open 2026 submissions with expanded brand partnerships

The 2026 Illume Photography Awards have opened submissions, highlighting a growing commercial alliance between outdoor brands and action sports creators.

Submissions for the 2026 Illume Photography Awards are now open until July 31, 2026, via the-illume.com. The global platform, built on the legacy of Red Bull Illume, invites both amateur and professional photographers to submit their work free of charge.

The competition underscores the substantial market reach of adventure sports imagery. Since 2006, the contest has attracted over 210,498 submissions from 30,489 photographers across 122 countries, ultimately reaching an audience exceeding 500 million people.

This year’s edition features a total prize pool valued at USD 200,000, backed by a coalition of major industry players. Alongside existing partners Angelbird, Yodobashi, and Leica, the awards have secured Patagonia and SCARPA as new collaborators. This signals a strategic push by outdoor companies to align their corporate identities with human-powered adventure narratives and environmental preservation.

Patagonia enters as the presenting partner of the Surf category, contributing directly to the competition’s prizes while reinforcing its commitment to protecting natural environments. SCARPA is extending its Pro Programme to support photographers documenting mountain sports, building on decades of backing athletes. Additionally, Leica provides a voucher toward its SL3-S camera, Angelbird grants access to its Creator Network, and COOPH offers a 30 per cent Prodeal.

The 2026 structure doubles the potential for recognition by offering eight Sports Categories and eight Theme Categories. Entrants may submit each photograph to both a sports and a theme category, with every sports category evaluated by a dedicated panel of five experts.

Beyond the direct financial incentives, the awards function as a significant exposure platform for visual creators. Finalists gain international recognition through an invitation to the Winner Award Ceremony. Their work will also be featured in The Illume Photobook and showcased during a travelling exhibit tour, embedding them deeper into the global adventure sports community.
