OpenAI workplace agents reach 10 million weekly users amid enterprise push
OpenAI claims its combined agentic tools have reached 10 million weekly active users, signaling a critical push into enterprise software markets ahead of an anticipated public offering.
OpenAI reports that its agentic ChatGPT products have surpassed 10 million weekly active users. This milestone arrives less than two weeks after the launch of ChatGPT Work, a system designed to execute multi-step tasks rather than merely generate text.
The reported figure combines weekly active users of both ChatGPT Work and Codex, the company’s coding assistant. It represents a self-reported company estimate rather than an audited metric of paying enterprise seats or the actual number of agents deployed.
Despite historical skepticism surrounding OpenAI’s self-reported adoption figures, the current growth trajectory remains sharp. Codex reached 5 million weekly users at the end of May and climbed to roughly 8 million by mid-July.
ChatGPT Work, which launched on 9 July for Pro, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers, operates by splitting briefs into smaller steps. It connects to platforms like Slack and Google Drive, generating documents and small web apps while utilizing OpenAI’s Computer Use feature to operate desktop software.
For the company, this metric signals a strategic shift from a consumer habit to indispensable enterprise software. OpenAI states that nearly all of its own staff now use these agentic products daily, and early corporate customers include Virgin Atlantic, Nvidia, Zapier, and RingCentral.
This rapid expansion places OpenAI in direct competition with rivals targeting the same finite pool of IT leaders and enterprise budgets. Google recently introduced Gemini Spark, an always-on assistant accessible via Gmail, while Anthropic is aggressively pushing its own workplace agents.
However, high user counts do not guarantee the revenue conversion required ahead of a widely reported public offering. The current metric reveals little about how many of these users sit on paid plans or whether engagement will survive the initial novelty of the GPT-5.6 model.
OpenAI continues to trial alternative monetization methods, including advertising, to ensure these tools generate sustainable income. For now, the 10 million user mark serves as a mid-race indicator of momentum rather than definitive proof of a won market.
