US firm Dimension Capital raises $800m for science-compute crossover

US firm Dimension Capital raises $800m for science-compute crossover

A New York venture firm has raised an $800 million fund to back companies merging biotechnology with artificial intelligence, signalling massive capital flows into a sector where European startups face intense transatlantic competition.

Dimension Capital closed an $800 million third fund on Tuesday, defying a broader venture capital slowdown that has squeezed newer firms. The fund is 60 percent larger than the $500 million vehicle the firm raised just 18 months ago.

For European investors and deep-tech founders, this rapid capital accumulation across the Atlantic sets a new benchmark for competitive pressure. As European hubs like London and Paris push to build AI-biotech ecosystems, Dimension's war chest underscores the financial muscle US funds are deploying to dominate the intersection of software and life sciences. It signals that the race to fund capital-intensive startups is accelerating.

Founded in late 2022 by Zavian Dar, Adam Goulburn and Nan Li, the New York firm bet that founders would increasingly build deep-tech companies blurring the lines between biotech and software. The three partners admit to being impressed by how quickly this thesis has played out in the market.

The firm's portfolio provides a clear window into where US capital is placing its highest bets. In 2024, Dimension co-led a $30 million seed round in Chai Discovery, a startup building open-source AI foundation models for drug development. Last week, Chai Discovery raised $400 million at a $3.8 billion valuation.

Dimension also backed anti-aging startup New Limit at its Series A round in January 2025. Co-founded by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, New Limit reached a $3.1 billion valuation after completing a Series C earlier this month.

The firm’s other notable investments include inference company Modal Labs and Anthropic. Dimension secured shares in the AI giant after Anthropic acquired Coefficient Bio, a drug discovery platform in Dimension’s portfolio, this spring for a reported $400 million.

These rapid valuation jumps highlight the scale of returns possible in the science-compute niche. European venture capitalists and institutional investors will likely scrutinise Dimension's strategy closely. They face increasing pressure to consolidate their own fragmented deep-tech funding into larger vehicles to keep pace with American competitors.
