Amon Amarth European Tour Tests Live Music Market
Swedish metal band Amon Amarth will launch an upgraded European tour and vinyl pre-orders this autumn, signaling continued capital investment in the continent's live entertainment sector.
Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth will embark on a major tour of the UK and Europe this autumn, providing a notable event for the region's live music market. The tour, running from October to November, supports the band's upcoming album The Allfather Awakens, set for release on October 2nd via Metal Blade Records.
For the touring sector, the band's decision to overhaul its stage production indicates ongoing investment in large-scale live experiences. Amon Amarth is retiring its famous longboat stage prop, replacing it with a new set based on the golden hall of Oden. Such production upgrades require fresh capital expenditure from touring partners and venue operators across the continent.
Direct-to-consumer strategy
On the recorded music side, the band is leaning heavily into direct-to-consumer sales channels. The Allfather Awakens is available for pre-order in various vinyl variants and bundles exclusively through the band’s official merchandising store. This approach allows artists to capture higher profit margins than those typically offered by digital streaming platforms.
To drive pre-order conversions and streaming metrics, the band has already released three singles: "Gjallarhorn", "We Rule the Waves", and "Upphaf". The track "Upphaf" marks the band's first acoustic release, a move that could expand its listener base beyond the traditional death metal demographic. Meanwhile, the lead single "Gjallarhorn" relies on the band's established blend of melodic death metal and thrash to satisfy its core audience.
"We worked on one song at a time and made each song as good as possible. Then we recorded one song at a time until each track was totally finished–drums, guitars, and vocals. Only then did we start on the next one," guitarist Olavi Mikkonen said of a recording process that aligns with their staggered single-release strategy. This approach allowed the band to preview the album through earlier tracks before announcing the full ten-track record.
The final tracklist features titles including "Eight Legs of Thunder", "Kvasir’s Blood", and "Die With a War Cry". As European venues adapt to shifting consumer spending, high-profile tours with upgraded productions remain a key revenue driver for the broader live entertainment economy. The tour's routing through multiple European markets will test local ticket demand as the colder months begin.
