Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott has rejected a new contract, drawing transfer interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United in a test of the Premier League's talent development market.
Alex Scott has turned down a new contract at Bournemouth, making him the subject of transfer interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. The 22-year-old midfielder is now poised to become the latest high-profile asset to move within the Premier League's top tier.
Bournemouth acquired Scott for £25m in 2023. Since then, his market value has appreciated significantly, driven by a dramatic improvement in his physical output and an established track record of 89 top-flight appearances over three seasons. For the elite clubs pursuing him, he represents a mitigated financial risk: a domestically proven talent who has already adapted to the league's physical demands.
Scott's statistical profile explains the attention from the league's biggest spenders. Last season, he missed just one game for Bournemouth, playing 625 of a possible 630 minutes against Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea. His ground duel success rate climbed from 47 per cent in his first season to 56 per cent, while his aerial success rose from 44 per cent to 54 per cent, outperforming established peers like Bruno Guimaraes.
Under manager Andoni Iraola, Scott developed into a versatile utility asset. "He is playing as a six, as an eight, as a 10," Iraola noted, highlighting a tactical flexibility that allows buying clubs to deploy him across multiple systems. His underlying metrics further support this value: he made 431 carries last season, ranked sixth for supporting runs, and made more runs tracking back into position than any other player in the division.
Scott's pedigree has long been recognised by the market's leading figures. Pep Guardiola described him as an "unbelievable player" in 2023, and Jack Grealish labelled him a "Top, top talent" after a cup meeting that year. Nigel Pearson, who gave Scott his professional debut at Bristol City, recalled him arriving as a "scrawny-looking youngster" who has since "really filled out and matured as a player."
However, prospective buyers will also weigh a clear deficiency in his offensive output. In 89 Premier League appearances, Scott has managed only four goals and three assists. Jason Euell, a former assistant coach at Bristol City, previously warned the player about this gap. "He wasn't getting enough assists and he wasn't scoring enough goals," Euell noted.
Despite that limitation, Scott's recent inclusion in Thomas Tuchel's pre-World Cup training camp underscores his rising status. For Bournemouth, his contract rejection signals the likely end of a highly successful investment. For the league's elite, he represents a rare commodity: a young, intensively tested, and tactically adaptable midfielder ready for immediate deployment.
