Barcelona have agreed a £1.28m fee with Manchester City for Brazilian forward Kerolin, making her the most expensive export in Women's Super League history. The transfer shatters City's outgoing record, previously held by Olivia Smith's move to Arsenal, and breaks Barcelona's internal ceiling of never paying more than £500k for a player.
The deal marks a deliberate shift in how Europe's dominant women's club operates financially. For years, Barcelona have leaned on their unparalleled prestige and the promise of Ballon d'Or recognition—won by their players for the last five consecutive years—to secure talent on favourable terms. Paying well over double their previous transfer record shows that financial caution is being overridden by the reality of a fiercely competitive market.
Manager Pere Romeu is actively reshaping a squad that has seen a sudden exodus of established stars, including Alexia Putellas, Ona Batlle, and Mapi Leon. Salma Paralluelo, the young forward who scored twice in last season's Champions League final, also departed after failing to agree on new terms. Kerolin's arrival directly replaces Paralluelo's profile and serves as validation that Romeu is remodelling his squad of aces rather than dismantling it.
The 26-year-old departs English football after just 18 months, but her statistical output justifies the significant outlay. In 26 WSL appearances, she scored 12 goals, boasting a goals-per-90 ratio bettered only by City's Khadija Shaw and Arsenal's Stina Blackstenius.
