London band Sleep Token earns US platinum with two billion streams
A London-formed band has secured US platinum status for its 2023 album through streaming metrics, highlighting a rapid commercial ascent that prompted a high-profile label switch.
The Recording Industry Association of America has awarded Platinum status to Sleep Token for their 2023 record, Take Me Back To Eden. The milestone, driven by over two billion streams, marks the first time an album released on Spinefarm Records has achieved this designation.
The certification underscores a structural shift in how the recorded music industry measures commercial success. Platinum status has traditionally required one million physical or digital sales, but the RIAA now awards the designation based on equivalent streaming volume.
The band's commercial trajectory has been exceptionally rapid. On Spotify, monthly listeners surged from under 300,000 in January 2023 to more than 1.5 million just one month later. This growth was accelerated by the viral success of the single The Summoning, which earned its own Platinum certification in April.
By the end of 2023, Eden was named the most streamed metal record on Spotify, surpassing major releases like Metallica’s 72 Seasons. This recorded success translated directly into live market demand, with the band selling out their first headline arena show at London’s Wembley Arena in December 2023 in under ten minutes.
That commercial leverage ultimately facilitated a significant corporate move. Sleep Token switched from Spinefarm to RCA for the release of their 2025 follow-up, Even In Arcadia. The transition to a major label yielded immediate chart returns, as Arcadia became the band’s first album to reach number one in both the UK and US.
Arcadia received Gold certification on January 26, 2026. Formed in London a decade ago, the group rose from a cult curio to become one of the most commercially successful metal bands of the century. Following a 2025 headline slot at the UK's Download Festival and a Los Angeles show in October, the band currently has no tour dates planned for 2026.
