RFEF secures €643 million media value following Spain's World Cup triumph
Spain’s second World Cup victory has delivered a massive commercial and digital boost to the Royal Spanish Football Federation, generating hundreds of millions in media value and expanding its global audience.
Spain’s national football team has secured its second World Cup title, a victory that has immediately translated into unprecedented commercial and digital reach for the Royal Spanish Football Federation. The tournament triumph generated an estimated advertising value equivalent of €643 million between late May and late July.
This massive media valuation highlights the growing economic power of national sports franchises in capturing global attention. The federation recorded 11.5 million media mentions during the tournament, creating 41.4 billion opportunities for audiences to view related content across various platforms.
The on-pitch success drove substantial subscriber growth across the RFEF’s digital networks. Official social media accounts for the national team added 6.7 million new followers in a two-month period, marking a 31 percent increase and bringing the combined total to 34.3 million.
Short-form video platforms saw particularly aggressive expansion, with TikTok gaining 3.5 million new followers and recording a 470 percent surge in views. Instagram also performed strongly, accumulating 2.7 billion views and over 93 million interactions throughout the competition.
The federation achieved these metrics by shifting toward dynamic, emotionally driven content tailored to modern digital habits. A recent revamp of the national team’s visual identity also contributed to this engagement, with specific championship graphics generating 316 million views.
Behind the digital strategy was a rigorous physical media operation designed to maximize exposure and control the narrative. The federation facilitated 215 one-to-one interviews, 245 flash interviews, and 34 press conferences to serve the reporting requirements of over 215 accredited journalists.
Looking ahead, the RFEF is leveraging this momentum into long-term commercial partnerships. The federation and Prime Video are set to release a four-part docuseries in December, distributing exclusive behind-the-scenes footage to audiences in more than 200 countries.
Announcing the project on the social platform X, the national team stated: “The @rfef and @PrimeVideo will release a docuseries about the triumph at the #FIFAWorldCup. It will be available in December and will consist of four episodes.”
