System of a Down bassist joins Dexter cast as legacy bands plan global tours
Shavo Odadjian’s casting in Paramount Plus’s latest drama highlights the convergence of music and screen talent, while his band’s upcoming tour dates signal a continued push by legacy rock acts into the live events market.
System of a Down bassist Shavo Odadjian has secured an acting role in the upcoming second season of Dexter: Resurrection. The new episodes of the Paramount+ streaming platform television series are scheduled to air later this year, marking the metal musician's transition into scripted television.
Executive producer Marcos Siega released first look images from the new season. The pictures show Odadjian’s character, R.H. Martin, in a scene where he is about to experience the wrath of the vigilante serial killer Dexter Morgan, portrayed by Michael C. Hall.
The collaboration reunites Odadjian with Siega, who previously directed System of a Down’s iconic music video for Chop Suey!. The director has also helmed visual projects for other rock acts, including Anthrax and Quicksand, illustrating a continued pipeline of music video directors moving into television production.
Beyond the screen, System of a Down is expanding its footprint in the live entertainment sector. The band has announced a tour of Australia and New Zealand set for early 2027. They will share the bill with Faith No More, a group returning to the stage for its first performances in more than a decade.
The live music schedule also includes a major festival appearance in the United States of America. System of a Down is booked to headline the Sick New World festival in Fort Worth, Texas, on October 24. Tickets for the upcoming event are currently available for public purchase.
These developments underscore the dual revenue strategies of legacy rock bands operating in a fragmented media landscape. By securing television roles and maintaining active global touring schedules, artists are diversifying their presence across both the streaming television economy and the live events market to maximize their commercial reach.
