PCP Capital Partners bids for 25.1% West Ham stake

PCP Capital Partners bids for 25.1% West Ham stake

Amanda Staveley's investment firm has targeted a quarter of the relegated club, testing the boundaries of West Ham's shareholder agreements and existing investors' commitment.

PCP Capital Partners, the investment firm led by Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi, has submitted a formal offer to acquire a 25.1 per cent stake in West Ham United. The shareholding on the table belongs to the family of the late David Gold.

The proposal immediately tests the club's internal shareholder dynamics. Under West Ham's ownership structure, current investors hold a right of first refusal, meaning they can match the bid and block external involvement. The outcome will dictate whether the club welcomes new financial partners or consolidates its current base.

Daniel Kretinsky, who increased his stake in the club earlier this year, remains interested in a deal. However, sources indicate he does not want to absorb the entire 25.1 per cent tranche, as doing so would make him the majority owner.

This opens a path for Staveley and Ghodoussi to re-enter English football. The pair previously oversaw the takeover of Newcastle United before departing. Since their exit, they have held discussions with several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, before narrowing their focus to the Hammers.

The bid arrives during a turbulent off-season for the London club. West Ham's relegation from the Premier League guarantees a severe hit to future broadcast revenues. That financial reality has already driven a reshape of the playing squad.

High-profile sales of Matheus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville have generated necessary capital. Meanwhile, the club has prioritised retaining captain Jarrod Bowen and is currently negotiating a transfer for Celtic midfielder Arne Engles.

The potential investment also coincides with a change in corporate governance. Joint-chairman David Sullivan stepped down after historic allegations regarding his conduct emerged, which he denies. Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has been retained to lead the team back to the top flight.

The negotiations are being handled with strict discretion. PCP Capital Partners will not issue public statements during this phase. If a deal is reached, the Gold family will release any formal announcement out of respect to the remaining shareholders.
