The UK producer and Mexican trio collapsed the traditional music release cycle into a single digital and live event, highlighting a shift in how global artists engage audiences.
UK electronic artist Fred again.. and Mexican R&B trio LATIN MAFIA have recorded an entire collaborative mixtape during a non-stop, two-day livestream. The musicians broadcast the complete production process from a studio in Mexico City, ending the transmission only when the project was finalized on Thursday. The initiative required the artists to remain in the studio until the final tracks were completed.
The continuous digital broadcast was immediately followed by a surprise live performance at the Palacio De Los Deportes. Fred again.. explained the strategy on Instagram, noting the pair had “been working on ideas for the last couple years together on and off.” He added that the resulting material naturally formed a “contained universe,” prompting them to release it as a single project.
For the broader music industry, this approach collapses the traditional boundaries between studio production, digital marketing, and live touring. By turning the creation process into a real-time media event, global artists can sustain audience engagement over extended periods. This model bypasses conventional promotional rollouts, merging content creation directly with fan consumption in a single, continuous cycle.
This marks the second recent live collaboration between the acts, following a joint appearance during the USB0002 tour in December. That performance was documented in the recently released tour film, under the fabric, which preceded the studio announcement. Integrating digital broadcasts with major stadium shows demonstrates how artists are bundling digital access with physical ticketed experiences to maximize global reach.
While an official release date for the new mixtape remains unconfirmed, early audio has surfaced. A segment from the tenth hour of the broadcast featured the artists and collaborator KatzPascale editing ‘Cmon’, a track originally from Fred again.. and Brian Eno’s 2023 album, Secret Life.
