Sam Fender and Olivia Dean Break 73-Year UK Chart Record

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean Break 73-Year UK Chart Record

The collaborative single "Rein Me In" has spent 19 weeks at number one, securing a historic chart run that carries major commercial implications for the UK live music and export sectors.

Sam Fender and Olivia Dean have secured the longest-running number one hit in the United Kingdom by any artist. Their collaborative single "Rein Me In" has now spent 19 weeks at the top of the official rankings.

This milestone breaks a 73-year-old industry record previously held by Frankie Laine. His 1953 track "I Believe" spent 18 non-consecutive weeks at the summit, a cultural benchmark that has now been surpassed.

Commercial leverage in the live sector

For the British music export market, a chart run of this magnitude represents substantial commercial value beyond standard audio royalties. A sustained number one single directly drives ticket demand for domestic and European concert tours.

Management teams and booking agents utilize this kind of unprecedented chart dominance to negotiate premium rates for arena shows and major festival appearances. When a track becomes a cultural staple, it transforms an artist's touring profile from a standard album cycle into a major market event.

Catalog and label revenue impacts

The prolonged success of the track also provides a vital revenue anchor for their record label and publishing partners. Originally shared in June of last year as a remix of a solo version from Fender’s album People Watching, the song's longevity defies standard release cycles.

In the modern music economy, a track that remains at the top of the charts for nearly half a year generates compounding returns. It drives listeners back to the artists' broader catalogs, boosting physical sales, merchandise revenue, and secondary streaming numbers across their respective discographies.

Fender reacted to the historic chart run on Instagram to express his disbelief at the commercial achievement. He thanked his collaborator and the public for turning the track into a juggernaut, writing, "Completely lost for words, thank you so much to Olivia Dean and the fans for making this song the juggernaut that it is," before adding, "We broke the UK record. LEGENDS."

The continuous weekly chart updates have also taken a noticeable toll on the artist's promotional schedule. Describing the weekly celebrations surrounding the Friday chart results, Fender noted that "Every Friday, it's been an excuse to party."

Reflecting on the exhaustion of maintaining the historic run, the artist joked about the need for the streak to conclude. "So it needs to stop soon because I'm gonna die," he added.
