Eleanor Cardwell, an early substitute for the English side, admitted the opposition was superior. "I feel that we threw everything at it today but they were the better team," she told TNT Sports.
She expressed dissatisfaction with the overall execution and noted her belief in the squad's potential. Cardwell stated directly: "I am a little bit disappointed with how we performed. I know we can do better."
The squad is now focused on adjusting their strategy ahead of the next game. "We are all about responses so we are going to go back to the drawing board," Cardwell explained.
Cardwell also referenced their failure to secure third place at the previous tournament in 2022. She noted that avoiding a repeat of that outcome will motivate the squad. "I don't want that feeling again [of missing out on bronze in 2022], that's going to fuel the fire," she said.
The athlete emphasized the physical effort required moving forward to guarantee success. "We have got to get a medal around our neck, there's no question about it. We have to work our a** off," she concluded.
England will now play Australia for the bronze medal after Jamaica secured a narrow one-point victory over the defending champions. New Zealand reaches the final for the first time since 2014 and will face Jamaica on Sunday afternoon.
