Manchester City secure Palmeiras winger Allan in £34.2m squad restructuring
Manchester City have acquired 22-year-old Brazilian winger Allan Elias for up to £34.2m, highlighting the club’s strategy of reinvesting record transfer revenues into targeted squad rebuilding under manager Enzo Maresca.
Manchester City have completed the signing of Palmeiras winger Allan Elias in a deal valued at up to £34.2m. The 22-year-old Brazilian has committed to a five-year contract, comprising an initial £32m fee with a further £2.2m in performance-related add-ons.
This acquisition serves as a direct replacement for fellow Brazilian Savio, who departed for Tottenham Hotspur last week in a £75m transfer. Allan arrives after recording nine goals and 12 assists across 96 appearances for the Brazilian top-flight club, having progressed through its youth academy.
Allan described the transfer as the proudest moment of his life, calling it a "surreal moment". He emphasized that conversations with City officials convinced him "there isn't a better place for me to fulfil my ambitions."
The transfer underscores a broader financial restructuring at the club under manager Enzo Maresca. City have now expended over £230m during the current summer window, headlined by the £116m acquisition of Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest and the £85.6m purchase of Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille.
This aggressive spending is heavily offset by a highly lucrative player sales strategy, which has generated more than £286m in revenue. The club’s most notable departure is 2026 World Cup Golden Ball winner Rodri, who secured a £65m move to Barcelona.
Further significant income was realized through Tijani Reijnders, who joined Al-Qadsiah for £52m, alongside substantial fees for Nico Gonzalez and James Trafford. Additionally, Omar Marmoush’s temporary move to Tottenham carries a mandatory £60m permanent transfer obligation next summer.
Despite the substantial net turnover, City’s recruitment drive remains active. The club is currently engaged in discussions with Liverpool regarding Dutch forward Cody Gakpo and maintains a strong interest in securing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
For European football markets, this window demonstrates City’s continued ability to monetize premium assets while swiftly reinvesting in younger talent. The model sustains their competitive edge while adhering to the financial realities of modern squad management.
