Crystal Palace books profit as Forest signs Daniel Munoz for £22m

Nottingham Forest’s £22m acquisition of Daniel Munoz highlights the aggressive financial strategies of Premier League clubs, while Crystal Palace demonstrates rapid asset appreciation by selling the defender for nearly triple his purchase price.

Nottingham Forest has completed the acquisition of defender Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace in a transaction valued at up to £22m. The 30-year-old Colombian international signed a three-year contract with an option for a fourth, reuniting with manager Oliver Glasner at the City Ground.

The deal underscores the rapid asset appreciation possible in the modern transfer market. Crystal Palace originally acquired Munoz from Genk for £8.5m in January 2024, meaning the London club will secure a substantial financial profit on the investment after just 18 months.

Palace facilitated the exit by securing Anan Khalaili from Union Saint-Gilloise. The club has also drawn a firm boundary on further dealings with Forest, confirming that goalkeeper Dean Henderson will not be sold before the deadline as they look to support new head coach Pierre Sage.

Forest is investing heavily to build a competitive squad following the departure of Omari Hutchinson to AC Milan. Munoz praised the club's ambition, stating, "This is a winning club." He also highlighted his strong professional relationship with Glasner, noting "we did big things together" at their previous club.

The club's financial activity continues with interest in Newcastle forward Jacob Murphy. Meanwhile, a proposed move for Everton’s Harrison Armstrong collapsed after Everton's board unanimously refused to sell. Furthermore, Eintracht Frankfurt is negotiating to re-sign striker Arnaud Kalimuendo on loan.

Crystal Palace is also navigating complex market structures, nearing a loan agreement for Honest Ahanor from Atalanta. The proposal involves a season-long loan before a permanent £40m transfer to Chelsea next summer, circumventing loan restrictions caused by Axel Disasi already being at Selhurst Park.

Additionally, Palace is resisting Liverpool's approach for Ismaila Sarr. The club insists the Senegal international remains under contract until 2029, despite missing the first two games through injury. These late-window maneuvers illustrate the intense financial and strategic calculations driving Premier League clubs as the Tuesday deadline approaches.
