Belgian musician Angèle announces new album Instinct via Sony Music
The Belgian musician’s upcoming release via Angèle VL Records and Sony Music features high-profile collaborators, highlighting her continued influence on both the European pop market and public conversations regarding industry misogyny.
Belgian musician Angèle has announced her new album, ‘Instinct’, which will be released on October 16 through Angèle VL Records and Sony Music. The announcement follows the June release of the single ‘Dis-Le’ and the recent Justice collaboration ‘What You Want’. Fans can currently pre-order the record.
The project marks a significant consolidation of her artistic network, featuring collaborations with prominent electronic acts Justice and Soulwax, alongside artist Caroline Polachek and producer SebastiAn. The 13-track listing also includes ‘Au revoir’, ‘On verra’, ‘Je compte’, ‘F4ck 4ever’, ‘Tout décider’, ‘Je sais’, and ‘NYC Blues’.
To preview the record, Angèle released the single ‘Une seule vie’, produced with long-time collaborator Tristan Salvati. The accompanying music video was directed by Thomas Mailaender and produced by Partizan. Filmed in the south of France on 16mm film, the visual incorporates footage of the August 12 solar eclipse and relies on in-camera practical effects like stop motion and mirrors rather than digital generation.
Described as being electronic at its core, the album explores the tension between control and release. The record utilizes chrome as a recurring conceptual language, treating it as a reflective space for transformation and freedom.
Beyond the commercial release, Angèle continues to influence public life through her commentary on the music business. Reflecting on her hit ‘Balance ton quoi’, she noted in a 2022 interview that the fight against patriarchy remains unfinished and the song has taken on more meaning over the years. She has been vocal about the structural challenges female artists face, stating that the industry often focuses on physical appearance rather than artistic output.
“When you’re a woman and when you’re doing music, it’s always about your physical aspect,” she explained regarding industry misogyny. “You’re too sexy, or you’re too shy, or you’re not enough, or you’re too much,” she added. “It’s always about how you are and never about what you do…sometimes I feel like as women we have to do double affords to be taken seriously.”
