Peter Gabriel Features in Apple TV+ Silo Finale Amid Ongoing Album Rollout
The 76-year-old musician’s surprise appearance in the post-apocalyptic series highlights the strategic value of legacy artist integration for global streaming platforms.
Peter Gabriel made a surprise on-screen appearance in the Apple TV+ series Silo, performing his 1986 track "Here Comes The Flood." The cameo occurred during a flashback sequence in last week’s episode, building anticipation ahead of the season finale scheduled for this Friday.
Series creator Graham Yost confirmed that the 76-year-old artist and his family successfully enter silo 17 just before a fictional nuclear blast. Yost noted that there is a "non-zero chance" that Steve Zahn’s future-timeline character, Jimmy, is a distant descendant, adding that specific family bloodlines have been actively discussed by the production team.
This direct integration marks a strategic shift from previous seasons, which licensed Gabriel’s "Red Rain" and "Come Talk To Me" without his physical presence on set. Securing the artist’s involvement required sustained engagement, as Yost’s initial approach during the first season was unsuccessful before the two eventually connected over a shared appreciation for the series.
Gabriel ultimately agreed to the cameo and brought his son and his son’s girlfriend to the production, both of whom appear at the side of the stage during the performance. The surprise nature of the shoot was evident when Slow Horses showrunner Will Smith visited the location and unexpectedly encountered the musician, exclaiming, "Fuck me."
Yost acknowledged that the song choice was deliberate, despite actor Reed Birney observing on set that it was "a little on the nose." The lyrics warning listeners to "say goodbye to flesh and blood" directly foreshadow the nuclear event depicted later in the narrative, bridging the artist's historical catalogue with the show's core themes.
The high-profile television placement coincides with Gabriel’s current commercial strategy in the European and global music markets. The artist is currently executing a year-long rollout for his new album, o\i, and released his latest single, "Looking For The Happy," just last week to support the broader campaign.
