Miley Cyrus Drops Surname for New Album Release on Atlantic Records

Miley Cyrus Drops Surname for New Album Release on Atlantic Records

The pop star is rebranding and launching a new album with high-profile collaborators to rebuild commercial momentum after her previous record underperformed.

Miley Cyrus, now performing under her first name only, will release a new album titled "Bass Persuades" on September 18 through Atlantic Records. The announcement marks a distinct branding pivot for the artist following the underwhelming commercial performance of her previous record.

The upcoming project arrives a little more than a year after the release of "Something Beautiful." While that album represented a bold artistic shift featuring collaborators such as Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado, the War On Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, and Alvvays’ Molly Rankin and Alec O'Hanley, it was not a commercial success.

Dropping her surname serves as a notable rebranding effort, even if the artist has not publicly addressed whether this move functions as an implicit rebuke of her father, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. The new record will feature fresh creative contributions from Model/Actriz frontman Cole Haden and Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt.

Commercial Strategy and Live Revenue

To support the release, the artist has scheduled two live performances at the Hollywood Bowl on October 16 and October 18, with Model/Actriz slated to open both nights. Live touring remains a critical revenue stream for major musicians navigating periods of subdued recorded music sales and shifting audience engagement.

The album’s rollout is heavily backed by high-profile creative partnerships designed to elevate its market positioning. Photographer Mert Alas exclusively created the visual world surrounding the project. Additionally, Chief Creative Officer Alastair McKimm, who recently collaborated with the artist on a special issue of Wonderland Magazine, served as a stylist for the new era.

The official tracklist includes ten songs, featuring guest appearances on "Different Religion" and "Neon Signs." The project concludes with a song titled "Bass Persuades Remixx," signaling a continued emphasis on varied sonic experimentation.

This commercial push follows a period of significant personal milestones for the artist, including the recent 20th anniversary of the Disney series "Hannah Montana" and the mourning of her godmother, Dolly Parton. Industry observers will watch closely to see if this consolidated branding and premium creative team can restore her commercial momentum.
