It's September, which means Perennial's Modernism is right around the corner. We've heard " What's New On The Beat Scene ," " Modernism ," and " Ready! Steady! Go! ," and today the New England trio is unleashing the quick, sprightly finale "Emma Peel."
"This is shortest song on the album, and also the most packed with stuff," vocalist/guitarist Chad Jewitt says. "At first the song was built entirely around the loud post-hardcore first half, but we wanted something more adventurous for the bridge, so we gradually came up with this cool jazz interlude — a minimal groove with vibraphone and mellotron. It's the collage thing: seeing what interesting layers might fit together in surprising ways."
