The Mix 122: dj g2g

Listening to a dj g2g mix is always an experience . This isn’t wishy-washy background music, nor facile ambient chill out-tracks. Rather, it’s a cobweb of selections which have been pulled from the hyperreal; scratching some unknown part of your brain while encouraging your body to surrender to the skittish, hyperactive beat. Her production style is similarly singular, with her credits littering the discographies of artists who have come to define the taste of a very online corner of the internet: outspoken and outré club-pop musicians (and objects of diva worship in many a queer rave) such as horsegiirL , Miss Bashful and Six Sex .

As an artist, g2g is a tastemaker; the progenitor of an expansive fusion of genres scraped from the internet, delivered in a haze of high-femme irony, laced with an internet-first sensibility. She’s a particularly prominent figure on SoundCloud, jokingly referring to herself as “the SoundCloud final boss” and contributing manic edits of popular songs, heavily distorted and twisted into byzantine shapes. But beyond a chaotic online footprint, she’s also frenetic behind the decks, known for the kind of peak-time sets that create a mass exodus from the smoking area and peacocking on the dancefloor.

When interviewing g2g, her layers of irony dissolve. She’s straightforward and, dare we say it, earnest. She reflects on the multifocal experience of growing up Danish-Uruguayan, queer and trans and how this has impacted her music; open-heartedly broaches her own artistic frustrations; and shares the powerful impact of femme friendship on her life and artistry, particularly with her “bestie”, the fashion designer and image-maker Alectra Rothschild . What have you been up to recently and what have you been inspired by?

Just finished a runway soundtrack for the brand Masculina’s SS27 collection “Doll Parts” , and playing a lot of shows all over the world, other than that I’m working on my debut album and lots of collabs! Besides this I’ve been trying to take a step back and slow down to be good to myself. That alone is super inspiring to me.

I have been trying to get better at accepting if some things are not happening, and just believing that things will align somehow one way or another, even though I take some time off to get enough sleep and see friends and family, or just be with myself, cooking or doing other stuff than music. And not get too stressed about trying to make everything happen at the same time, because then it will result in having 1838364 half-finished projects and never showing them to the world.

Throughout your career, you’ve been drawn to posting edits on SoundCloud with a particular enthusiasm. What attracts you to SoundCloud and why is it such a big part of your artistic DNA?

Creating edits is a fun and not so serious way of trying things out, but also to connect with other artists. I love the SoundCloud community and I wish to keep contributing to keeping it alive, with my music and edits.

To state the obvious, your sound is eclectic and draws on a range of genres. How do you find harmony between these different sonic influences?

My neurospiciness finds it calming with this many things going on. I would never be happy with just sticking to one or few genres only, just as I enjoy trying new foods all the time, going to new places and having many different types of friends.

I think my background being both from northern Europe and from Uruguay informs many of the genres I work with. It’s kinda the clash between those cultures meeting the lens of being queer and trans.

Growing up in Copenhagen and now touring internationally on the club scene, what do you think is missing from Copenhagen’s party scene?

The music that I play isn’t that big in Copenhagen, but we’re changing that with the party series that I just started throwing with Alectra called onlybeautiful . The next party will have my dear sister Miss Bashful come and perform along with our local residents like Elle Fierce and more.

What have been some of your favourite parties that you’ve played or attended? Why?

I have always been a huge fan of Skrillex and I still cannot believe I got invited to play at his party this year [ CONTRA , Berlin]. It was really an epic experience, shoutout Sonny and his team for having me!

Roskilde Festival 2025 was also a huge moment for me. Playing a full set of 100% my own songs for so many thousands of people really hit different. I kinda wanted to be in the crowd to experience it all from that POV.

You’ve produced for artists like Miss Bashful, Six Sex, horsegiirL and Lila Sky. What draws you to a musical contributor, and which artists would you most like to work with in future?

With most of my music collaborations, we started as internet friends then just naturally started working more together. I’m blessed to be drawn towards strong, vulnerable and complex women in music who naturally lean towards me too. My dream collaborations at the moment would be Kelela , Lauren Duffus , KAVARI , Cortisa Star and always my man Skrillex.

In the past couple of years, you’ve been moving more into the fashion space, particularly working closely with Alectra Rothschild / MASCULINA, and working on campaign and show soundscapes. Why does the fashion world interest you, and how does your personal style cross over into your artistry?

Alectra and I work together closely and have been for four years now, so we work on all things Masculina together and Alectra works with me on all things g2g.

I’m very interested in all types of creative outputs and fashion as a medium is very inspiring for me to take part in. Alectra is my favourite designer in the whole world, and her pieces are literally making me feel 3000% more like myself. To be honest, it always feels weird when I’m not wearing Masculina. She is also my bestie.

She works so hard, and everything she does helps expand both our own understanding and that of the outside world regarding transgender people; encompassing both the struggle and the beauty. There is always a kind of political statement in her work and designs. and that’s also a big reason why we should all support her and her work.

I’ve been working with Florentino on numerous occasions, we played b2b at Primavera Sound Barcelona , I did a mix for Club Romantico’s NTS radio takeover and I’m also brewing on some unreleased things with them... I can’t say more than that right now.

Can you talk me through this mix: were there any guiding principles or vibes, and how does it reflect where your artistry is at the moment?

This mix consists of 62 minutes of mostly music that I have been playing a lot at my gigs the past few months. Lots of different genres as always. Very peak-time dancefloor. There’s a few unreleased ones by me and my friends are in there too.

Continuing working closely with friends, new collaborators and getting better at making decisions from my heart instead of what I think people might expect.
