Sijya announces ‘Leather & Brass [Retrofitted]’ EP, shares ‘Do I Know [Rachika Nayar Edit]’: Listen

Sijya has announced a new EP. 'Leather & Brass (Retrofitted)' will arrive on 2rd October via One Little Independent Records.

The first single, ‘Do I Know [Rachika Nayar Edit]’, has already dropped. You can listen to this below.

As a concept, the forthcoming collection takes the New Delhi, India-based artist's original tracks and hands them to a selection of producers she admires and has been inspired by. These include Sneha Khanwalkar (reinterpreting 'Safe') and Molina (who takes on ' I only want to crash ').

“For the past few years I’ve been obsessed with listening to femme producers and artists, and this remix comp is an ode to that,” Sijya explained. '“I love Rachika’s work and it’s amazing to have her rework 'Do I Know'. [She] beautifully indulges the tender side of the song, it’s a perfect companion.”

“Sneha Khanwalkar is a legend. She is a music director, which is what producers are called in Bollywood. She’s done amazing work blending authentic regional sounds (that she’s often gone and recorded on ground herself) with contemporary sounds," she continued. "I’ve often wondered why musicians in the Indian indie scene and the Bollywood scene are so, well, separate, when we’re basically doing the same thing. When we were thinking of Indian producers for the remixes she immediately came to mind because she is an undeniable music maker of our times.”

The new collection has been announced shortly after standalone single ' Turbine ', which was based on Sijya's experience playing the Tate Modern's gargantuan, and iconic, Turbine Hall in London. This performance followed support sports for The Cinematic Orchestra and Nabihah Iqbal.
