Universal Audio announces new free DAW, LUNA 3.0
UA has also announced a new subscription service, UA Spark Audio
Universal Audio (UA) has unveiled an updated version of its flagship DAW, LUNA 3.0.
The software is available in two versions, LUNA Free and LUNA Studio. The free version adds a string of new features, notably LUNA Play. Likened to a voice note app for making music, the tool detects instruments and sets levels automatically, and comes with UAD plug-in presets built in.
Additionally, the free update brings in four-track stem separation, Folder Tracks for better organisation, an Adaptive Grid that adapts to your zoom level, Clip Gain Automation and more.
The paid tier, LUNA Studio, also comes with several new additions, including six-track stem separation and audio-to-MIDI conversion and other smart tools.
“Great songs start with an idea,” said UA CEO Bill Putnam Jr. “And we’ve all been there... when you hear something in your head, hit record, and suddenly the inspiration's gone, or the tech gets in the way. This new era for LUNA makes it easier than ever to capture those ideas and follow them wherever they take you.”
LUNA 3.0 is the latest iteration of the company's DAW, which launched back in 2020 .

Elsewhere, the Californian company has been adding to its pool of plug-ins, last month dropping two classic reverbs, UAD EMT 140 Classic Plate Reverberator and UAD EMT 250 Classic Electronic Reverb, as native plug-ins.
In spring, UA also released a free bundle made up of eight of its most popular plug-ins , including the "easy-to-use" Pure Plate Reverb and the classic 1176 compressor.
The US audio production leader also released a new analogue-flavoured soft synth called Anthem last year.
