Erol Alkan hints at return of influential London club night, Trash
“But there is a light that never goes out. Got something to share with you, so let’s stay in touch.”
Erol Alkan has teased the return of his legendary London club night, Trash.
The announcement of a potential return comes almost 20 years on from the final edition of the party series. “January 2027 will mark 20 years since we closed our doors forever,” read a post shared this week on Trash’s Instagram page. “But there is a light that never goes out. Got something to share with you, so let’s stay in touch.”
Founded by Alkan in 1997, Trash was a weekly club night that took place at London venues such as Plastic People, The Annexe and The End across its 10-year run. The party saw him and residents such as Rory Phillips and James Dickie bring together sounds such including electro, indie, and rock under one roof.
Early Trash line-ups featured acts including LCD Soundsystem, Klaxons and Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as the party became a key force in shaping the electroclash, nu-rave and blog house scenes of the 2000s.
Last year, Alkan marked 18 years since the end of Trash by sharing recordings of some of his sets from the club night.
Earlier this summer, he reissued a lost disco gem by a Croydon duo called Xclusiv on his Phantasy Sound label, which he described as “a radio hit that somehow slipped through the cracks”.
