Guitarricadelafuente has released “La nieve,” an original new song written for La Bola Negra , the acclaimed film from Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi that also marks the Spanish musician’s acting debut.
The track arrives after the movie was selected on Wednesday to represent Spain in the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Academy Awards. “La nieve,” which Guitarricadelafuente co-wrote with Raül Refree, is also being submitted for consideration for Best Original Song.
“I wanted ‘La nieve’ to come from the same emotional place as the characters in the film,” Guitarricadelafuente said in a press statement. “I was inspired by Federico García Lorca’s last letter and also by my character, Sebastián. I thought about all of his unspoken feelings, and I had to live in that as an actor first to be inspired to write the song.”
Inspired in part by an unfinished work by Lorca, La Bola Negra follows three generations of men across different periods of Spanish history. Guitarricadelafuente stars alongside Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, Miguel Bernardeau, Lola Dueñas, Carlos González, and Milo Quifes.
The film premiered at Cannes, where Calvo and Ambrossi won Best Director, before making stops at Telluride and Toronto. It opens in Spain on September 25th and begins its US theatrical run on October 16th before arriving on Netflix on December 2nd.
