DJ breaks Guinness World Record for most vinyl shop visits in 24 hours

Paul Richards visited 28 stores in total during his record-breaking feat

A UK DJ who set out to break the Guinness World Record for the most record shops visited in 24 hours has officially had his achievement recognised.

Paul Richards (aka DJ Ridney), who runs independent label Paharas Musica, completed the record-breaking attempt across the UK’s south coast, travelling between stores in Brighton, Worthing, Chichester, Shoreham-by-Sea, Southampton, and beyond using only public transport and on foot. Under the rules of the record attempt, he also had to purchase a vinyl album and take a picture at each store. Richards visited 28 record shops in total, with the achievement officially recognised 11 months after the attempt.

Speaking about the recognition, he said: “Vinyl has been a constant in my life since childhood, not only as a way of enjoying music, but as a soundtrack to important memories and moments. It ultimately led to my career as a DJ and music producer. I want to celebrate vinyl and the record shops that helped me discover music, meet people, share stories and find records I might otherwise have missed.”

During the record attempt, Richards also stopped at Southampton record shop Overdraft to play an impromptu DJ set, using the opportunity to showcase some of the records he had picked up during the day.

The artist has previously performed at Café Mambo in Ibiza, with his music receiving airplay on BBC Radio, Capital Chill, KISS FM, and more.

He announced his intentions to carry out the record-breaking attempt last October .

Earlier this year, a number of East London record shops united for an organised record store crawl .
