Armin van Buuren stars in new mini-documentary filmed at [UNVRS]: Watch

Armin van Buuren has released a new mini-documentary filmed during his A State of Trance residency at [UNVRS] Ibiza.

Created in collaboration with psychotherapist Rachel Giddings, The Psychology of the Dancefloor: An A State of Trance Documentary explores what happens in the minds of fans during the Dutch DJ’s five-hour sets at the club, including the emotional intensity of shared musical experiences and the connections formed between strangers.

“The DJ is often at the centre of attention, but the real magic happens on the dancefloor”, van Buuren shared in a press statement. “This documentary is about the people who experience it; their emotions, their connections, and the profound effect that music and collective experience can have on us”.

The 10-minute film, directed by Izah Muller, was filmed during the Dutch trance artist’s ongoing [UNVRS] residency . “It has been fascinating to look at the dancefloor through a psychological lens during my five-hour show”, van Buuren said. “We often talk about what music does to us, but rarely about what actually happens to us when we experience it together. Why do we feel connected to strangers? Why can a moment on the dancefloor move us so deeply? And why can music make us feel like we’re part of something bigger?”

The A State of Trance [UNVRS] residency continues every Monday through 5th October, with van Buuren set to play a vinyl-only session as part of each date. Watch a previous vinyl-only set from the residency here .

Throughout September, the residency will also feature “face-to-face” (f2f) sets with special guests including Hannah Laing, Argy and Eli Brown, with Funk Tribu joining van Buuren for the final edition on 28th September.

Earlier this month, Armin van Buuren partnered with the self-described “ responsible” AI music company Moises with Laidback Luke as early members of its Artist Partnerships programme. He also appeared in drag as “Mystery Queen ” on the Dutch TV show, Make Up Your Mind.
