Watch The Weeknd debut anime-inspired new single, ‘Tokyo’, featuring Yoko Takahashi
The track was debuted in Japan over the weekend, as The Weeknd kicked off the Asia leg of his After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour
The Weeknd debuted a new unreleased single, ‘Tokyo’, during a show in Japan over the weekend. Watch the performance below.
The track features Japanese singer Yoko Takahashi, who joined The Weeknd on stage at Tokyo’s Belluna Dome stadium on 19th September.
‘Tokyo’ samples Takahashi’s 1995 song, ‘A Cruel Angel’s Thesis’, the theme from popular anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion . The performance also featured visuals from the show, as well as the video game NieR .
Yoko Taro, the creator behind the NieR series, was credited as creative director for The Weeknd’s live show. He has also been credited as a writer on a new upcoming series of Neon Genesis Evangelion , which was teased earlier this year.
The Tokyo show kicked off the latest and final leg of Tesfaye’s long-running After Hours Til Dawn stadium tour , which first started back in 2022.

In November, After Hours Til Dawn became the highest-grossing tour by a male solo artist in history, with Live Nation revealing that it had grossed more than $1 billion since launching in 2022.
Earlier this month, Tesfaye donated $2.2 million from his 2026 Europe tour to the UN World Food Programme and Global Citizen.
In April, Tesfaye debuted another new track, this time at a show in Rio de Janeiro, titled ‘ São Paulo ’, featuring Brazilian artist Anitta.
