Kirk Hammett fell off the stage during Metallica ’s show at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland, on Friday night, right as the band started performing the classic “Seek & Destroy.”
Footage from the concert shows Hammett playing the song’s iconic riff as he walks to the edge of the stage. The guitarist mistakenly steps on a fabric stage cover and his foot goes right through, as he falls into the crowd.
Fans reach out to help him, and he recovers fairly quickly, only missing a couple riffs before continuing to play the song. The rest of the band kept playing, apparently not realizing Hammett had tumbled off the stage.
Hammett later poked fun at himself on his Instagram story, sharing a video of the incident that was captioned “Slip and Destroy.”
A contingent of Taylor Swift fans likely believe that Hammett’s fall was karma after the guitarist sported a “Taylor Swift Is a CIA Psyop” t-shirt during a recent Metallica show in Budapest, upsetting Swifties everywhere.
It’s certainly not the first time Hammett has fallen down during a Metallica show. Back in November 2023, he took a nasty tumble during a concert in Detroit , but wasn’t too amused by that fall, angrily tossing his guitar at one of the roadies after getting up.
Metallica’s current UK run will wrap up with a two-night stand July 3rd and 5th in London. The band will then take the summer off before starting their 24-date “Life Burns Faster” residency at Las Vegas’ Sphere , running from October 1st, 2026, through March 13th, 2027 ( pick up tickets here ).
