Suno sucks. Everyone knows this, including SZA, who recently drew attention to the way AI is exploiting Black artists. Now Suno, the $5.4 billion generative AI music creation platform, is launching an incubator program for indie musicians, and it requires them to promote and never criticize the company.

The program is called Spark , and it promises project funding, grants, marketing support, writing camps, industry perks, and guidance from a partner manager. On the FAQ section of Suno's website, the requirements mention, "Each song must be promoted via multiple social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc, highlighting that it was made with Suno)" for the duration. But what's more concerning is the "Good Vibes Only" clause on their fine print terms:

During the Term and thereafter, You will not at any time make any statements or representations, either directly or indirectly, whether orally or in writing, that disparage Spark or its participants. This is about maintaining mutual respect, and does not prevent you from speaking honestly about your experience in the program. Violation of this Section will be considered a material breach and grounds for termination.

Seems bad! On a lighter note, Tidal has implemented an AI policy that vows to identify and tag AI-generated music, and it will not be monetizable. A step in the right direction.
