TOMORA soundtrack UK World Cup as England face Norway
Major UK broadcasters have turned to a cross-border European musical collaboration to score their World Cup coverage during a pivotal match between England and Norway.
The Anglo-Norwegian duo TOMORA provided the musical backdrop for the UK’s World Cup television coverage, coinciding with Saturday's knockout match between their respective home nations.
The BBC adopted the track "Somewhere Else" as its main tournament theme, while rival network ITV used "In A Minute" across its promotional material. Both songs are taken from the duo's 2026 debut album, "Come Closer".
The pairing underscores how major European public events increasingly rely on cross-border cultural collaborations. The project pairs Norwegian art-pop artist Aurora with Tom Rowlands, the English electronic music producer known for his work in The Chemical Brothers.
The duo expressed delight at the broadcast placement, drawing a direct parallel between their art and the sporting occasion. "We love football and the way it celebrates and unites people, like music," they said. "It’s wonderful to see all everyone so emotive, and expressive with their emotions."
They also used the platform to address broader issues of access in international sport. The pair sent "special love to all the people from the Ivory Coast that could not get the chance to travel to see their teams play," adding: "Football should be available for everyone!"
Describing the BBC theme, the duo said they pictured "Somewhere Else" as "a mysterious door that you could open and end up somewhere beautiful," adding that they put the sound of birds from inside this door into the track. Of the ITV song, they noted the "voices constantly singing during the whole song," concluding: "In a minute you’ll see the sun, this is important to remember too."
Saturday's match in Miami put the duo's unity to a playful test. Aurora backed her native Norway, stating: "Norway has won the hearts of the people, and I also think Norway will do very good this year, we are an underdog that you should fear!"
Rowlands, however, maintained that England’s chances of reaching the final were "extremely high". When asked for her favourite football anthem, Aurora cheekily pointed to Norway’s viral celebration chant, "RO! RO! RO!".
TOMORA are currently navigating the summer festival circuit. They will embark on a UK and European headline tour in October 2026.
