Trophy-winning coach Glasner tasked with Forest rebuild

Trophy-winning coach Glasner tasked with Forest rebuild

Oliver Glasner has taken over at Nottingham Forest, tasked with restoring the club's Premier League competitiveness following the British-record sale of Elliot Anderson.

Oliver Glasner has begun his first day with the Nottingham Forest squad after succeeding Vitor Pereira at the City Ground earlier this month. The 51-year-old Austrian takes charge ahead of the club's return to full pre-season training.

Forest finished 16th in the Premier League last season and are now navigating a significant squad reset. The club recently completed the British-record sale of England midfielder Elliot Anderson to Manchester City.

Glasner arrives with a proven track record of delivering European silverware. He guided Eintracht Frankfurt to the 2021-22 Europa League title before securing back-to-back major trophies at Crystal Palace, winning the 2025 FA Cup and the Conference League prior to his departure.

The new manager acknowledged the scale of the task required to make Forest competitive. "There is no button to press that automatically makes it happen. It is a daily thing that will take progress over the coming weeks, which is what we have started," Glasner told Forest TV.

He stressed that the club's internal culture will determine its sporting recovery. "The people are what is most important and that is what gives me a lot of confidence for this project. I have met great people - you can have the best stadium, the best training ground, but if you don't have the right people, it doesn't work," he said.

Glasner expressed optimism that the organisation can unite to reverse its recent decline. "For me it is very important that it is exciting and challenging. I really believe that us all together - the staff, the players, the fans, the leadership of the club - we can be really competitive in the Premier League which makes me excited," he added.

The coach noted that establishing his methods will require a fundamental shift in daily operations. "Now we have to find the way that is best to work together. It is not just work for me, it is my life," he said.
